Advanced Health & Safety Management

Program description & objectives

Effective safety management is within the purview of and should be driven and enforced by senior members of staff in any organization. However, the concept of Safety Management Systems is usually limited to the systematic approach and not to the holistic approach. Safety Management must, therefore, encompass both the hard and soft aspects of safety to produce an exceptional outcome. Health and Safety have to be managed with the same degree of expertise and to the same standards as other core business activities because of the high costs failures portend. As the supervisory bodies, relevant State agencies need to pursue legislation that would require employers to assess and manage Health and Safety Risks. This program would mimic the Successful Health and Safety Management produced by the Health and Safety Executive (UK). By the end of the sessions, delegates will understand: - The necessity to manage Health and Safety with the same degree of expertise and to the same standards as other core business activities - Be familiar with the Health and Safety Regulations of the Federal Republic of Nigeria - The importance of Safety Culture is involved in an SMS - The effect of Behavioural safety on safety culture - Risk perception and Hazard Operability (HAZOP) studies
